I tried and analyzed the Zooplus Bio cat food, which is made of 95% organically grown raw materials and is ORGANIC certified. Is it as good as it seems at first glance?
A few words about the Zooplus Bio brand
Zooplus Bio is Zooplus’ own brand, manufactured in Bavaria, Germany. It is wet cat food with an ORGANIC quality certificate. (Certification by DE-ÖKO-006.)
Food tests and analyses
Zooplus Bio currently offers three flavors, which I bought in a mixed sample package.
Organic goose with pumpkin
Organic duck with zucchini
Organic chicken with carrot
Price: around EUR 2.0 for a 400 gram can and EUR 0.7 for an 85 gram bag.
The manufacturer states that Zooplus BIO is a complete food for cats. I will check whether it really is the complete basis of a daily and balanced diet.

The food is certified organic, i.e. it contains products from organic and animal welfare-friendly agriculture that is controlled by the European Union.
Smell and consistency
Each of the flavors has a delicate meaty aroma and the food consistency is reminiscent of a homemade pate. Zooplus BIO cat food comes in the form of a creamy pate with jelly.
Composition and analysis of Zooplus Bio
95% goose* (of which 75% breast meat, 10% livers, 5% necks, 5% hearts, 5% carcasses), 2% pumpkin, 1% coconut flakes, 1.5% minerals, 0.5% salmon oil.
*Raw materials from organic production. Certification according to DE-ÖKO-006
Additives per kg: Vitamin A 1000 IU, Vitamin D3 100 IU, Copper (copper (II) sulfate pentahydrate) 1.5 mg, Manganese (manganese (II) sulfate monohydrate) 1.5 mg, Zinc (zinc oxide) 25 mg, Iron (iron (II) sulfate monohydrate) 22 mg, Selenium (sodium selenite) 0.10 mg, Taurine 1300 mg, Calcium 233.1 mg, Phosphorus 225.4 mg.
Analytical composition: Protein 12.1%, Fat 8.9%, Crude ash 2.2%, Crude fiber 0.3%, Moisture 75.4%.
Muscle meat – 75% of the total meat content.
Offal – 25% of the total meat content.
Pumpkin is an unnecessary vegetable addition.
Coconut flakes are an unnecessary additive.
Salmon oil is an important source of omega fatty acids, which are essential in a cat’s diet.
Comprehensive composition analysis
Up to 95% of Zooplus organic cat food is made up of animal ingredients, 75% of which is muscle and the remaining 25% is offal. The food contains no grains, rice, preservatives or colorings. Unfortunately, each flavor contains an unnecessary vegetable additive.
Zooplus organic contains 1300 mg/kg of taurine and that is about optimal, but not perfect. The taurine content in complete cat food should be around 1500 mg/kg. The food contains salmon oil, which is a source of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, which are essential in a cat’s diet.
The ratio of calcium and phosphorus varies in each flavor from 1.03:1 to 1:6:1, which is not ideal. I would recommend that owners of cats with kidney problems take a look at the individual composition analyses presented above in this review.
The analytical composition of Zooplus organic pet food is balanced, i.e. it contains the optimal level of fats, carbohydrates and proteins. Of course, the carbohydrate content could be even lower if the food did not contain vegetables.
Advantages
a fixed amount of meat and offal in the food,
a monoprotein composition,
contains salmon oil,
contains raw materials from organic production,
an optimal taurine level,
an optimal content of carbohydrates, proteins and fats,
no colorings and preservatives,
no grains, potatoes, rice and dairy products.
Disadvantages
unnecessary vegetables,
only available in an online store.
My opinion on Zooplus Bio
Zooplus Bio is available in bulk packs and pouches and can only be purchased from the Zooplus online store. All food variants are monoprotein, but unfortunately there are only 3 flavors. This is a pretty poor selection, but you should keep in mind that the product is new on the market so the manufacturer offers a limited range of flavors. I hope that the range of flavors will be expanded and more will be launched soon.
My cat's opinion
Apollo has tried all three variants of Zooplus Bio and I can’t pick a specific winner in these Apollo palatability tests. Why? Apollo greedily ate every food and licked the plate clean. So I’m announcing a tie!
Conclusion
Zooplus Organic wet cat food is a high-quality, organic-certified product that provides a balanced and nutritious diet for cats. Made with 95% organic animal ingredients, including high levels of muscle meat and key nutrients such as taurine and salmon oil, it meets the nutritional needs of cats without unnecessary fillers such as grains, preservatives or artificial additives.
While the addition of vegetables such as pumpkin and coconut flakes may be unnecessary for a cat’s diet, it does not significantly affect the overall quality of the food. The calcium to phosphorus ratio could be improved for cats with kidney problems, but for healthy cats it remains a good option.
One major downside is limited availability – Zooplus Organic can only be purchased online and the range of flavours is currently small. However, given its recent launch, there is potential for expansion.
From my cat Apollo’s perspective, all three flavours have been a success, making this a strong contender for pet owners looking for an organic and nutritious wet food option. If you are looking for a high-quality single-protein cat food with organic certification, Zooplus Bio is certainly worth considering.
