Spotted: Tina in second-hand clothes! Is there someone on the decline?… XOXO Gossip… er, nonsense, sorry! I’m 55 years old and I watch Gossip Girl! That has to have side effects.๐
Bad purchases hang in the closet and hang and hang. Often they are worn little or not at all. Or we’ve grown out of the item, suddenly don’t like the color anymore, or the material. The sweater is scratchy, oh dear. Or we’ve gotten tired of it. Other times we didn’t think about the fact that we already own something similar. There are a thousand reasons why you just don’t wear some things (anymore).
Then women want to get rid of things again. Space in the closet is the big trend.๐ It’s good if you can pass them on to someone who likes them. There are also various platforms like Vinted, girls’ flea market, Ebay etc. to offer the things.
I have mostly sold on eBay. But eBay does a lot to protect buyers, which I can understand, but sellers are in a bad position when they get “stupid” customers.
A small example, it was a while ago, but it still reminds me: I am selling a piece of clothing. I always take lots of pictures, I am a private seller and I describe the condition. Example: Good used condition without holes or stains. This was also the case with this piece of clothing, which was in very good condition. For the most part, I chose a fixed purchase price for immediate purchase. The item was not listed for long when it was bought. I paid with PayPal and sent the item of clothing. A few days later, I received an email from PayPal saying that the buyer had “opened a case”. Um, I was astonished. The buyer had not contacted me, it came out of the blue. The reason given by the buyer was that she had thought it was new and that was not the case. No labels! Um… sure. To be on the safe side, I look again at my item description and also at the categorization, everything says “used condition”.
I email the buyer politely that I had written this clearly and that I am not responsible if she thought it was a brand new item of clothing with a label. Even if I only wore it once briefly, I state “used condition”.
In short, the buyer never replied to any of my emails and Paypal simply took the amount back from me. That meant no money, no more item and I had also paid the shipping costs.
Of course that won’t ruin me, but honestly, who wants to offer clothes anymore?! No chance as a private seller. I recommend that you only accept payment by bank transfer, but I’m not sure if that’s even possible anymore. Ebay has changed something.
That’s why I looked around. Sarah often sells on Vinted, formerly Kleiderkreisel. But she often complains that people write and write, don’t want to pay much and don’t get in touch or pay. She was often annoyed by this. Who wants to be annoyed voluntarily?!
I recently discovered Momox for myself. First as a buyer of second-hand fashion at Momox fashion. I was looking for a blouse and found what I was looking for. Shipping was so quick, the goods were flawless and well packaged without a strange second-hand smell. You should know that smell is very important to me. For me smell is the deciding factor between well-being and discomfort. I am very satisfied. Shipping is free and you can also return the item if it doesn’t fit or you don’t like it. That is a huge advantage, although I have bought five items there to date and kept them.
After the positive experience, I thought I would try selling to Momox. It is different to other platforms, Momox buys the clothes from you. You find out the price before hand.
We tried it with Sarah’s dress from Chi Chi London. Momox gives her 14.31 euros for it if she sends it in. For a dress from Cos she would get 8.88. For a pair of fabric trousers from Boden โฌ4.84 (as of about 2 weeks ago). It always depends on demand. Prices vary. No matter what size or design. The clothing must be in very good condition. These are just examples and you can consider beforehand whether you want to put it in the sales box or whether the amount is too little for you. Then you can pack everything in a box, print the shipping label and have DHL pick it up (you can choose a pick-up date) or take it to the post office. Momox will cover the shipping costs. Around 14 days later you will receive a message saying whether everything is OK and the amount will be transferred to your specified bank account. You can also choose a Momox voucher, then you will get 30% more to spend on shopping. It’s worth it if you want to shop there too. It’s like swapping clothes and 30% more is a good incentive.
Today’s outfit includes two Momox second-hand purchases. I sent two blazers to Momox and bought this one in return. I wanted something with a bouclรฉ look and found what I was looking for. Wears like a cardigan, very comfortable. The green blouse is transparent, similar to chiffon and made of great material: 70% cotton and 30% silk. It was the very first item in the shopping cart because I liked it straight away.
If you’re wondering why Sarah is also here today, the trench coat is also second-hand from Momox for 25.90 euros. Her old trench coat was torn and by chance I discovered this beautiful Marie Lund trench coat while browsing and bought it for her.
By the way, I was not paid or commissioned to sing this song of praise. I’m singing this to you because I’m excited and know that many of you also want to sort out clothes that are still good. And we know that collecting old clothes is not a solution.
You’ve now seen almost all of my purchases from last month in this post. The beret, blazer, blouse and bag.
So, are you still here? Or did you just look at the pictures? There was a lot to read, I admit. It will be shorter another time.๐
