With another cold winter coming up in New York City, I’m so glad there’s a kids’ clothing brand that understands the importance of a high-quality and fashionable winter coat. I discovered Appaman when my son was two and have never looked back. Now all three of my kids are tackling winter with the warmth of Appaman. This season, I collaborated with this amazing brand and tested out some of our favorite coats of the season.
You can always recognize an Appaman coat by the famous little monkey on the zipper. Appaman was launched in 2003 by a couple living in Brooklyn who were inspired to create a clothing line that was fun and unique for kids, but loved by everyone. And in case you’re wondering, the little monkey was actually the founder’s childhood companion from Norway! I just love that!
The latest collection is fun, bold and as always a combination of play-ready basics and super warm outerwear. Not only do my kids love their coats and hats, but the Appaman clothing collection is just as good! We were recently gifted the Vegas Gold leggings and not only are they “so” on trend, but they are unexpectedly warm. I will have no problem letting the girls wear these on a cold day. Who says you have to be practical just because it’s cold? Ha!
My son is “almost” leaving the boys’ section, but not this year!!! He picked out a new take on the classic puffer coat. The Base Camp Puffer is just as warm but a little slimmer and a little longer. It was a great option for him this year as he is in his “tween” phase. My son also “loves” his Appaman hats. He wears them when it’s not even cold. This year we opted for the Nigel Hat which (like most Appaman hats) has a hidden fleece for extra warmth.
My 5 year old daughter has passed down her puffer coats to my youngest daughter. Even after two years of wearing them, they are in perfect condition. I wash them at the beginning and end of each season and am always amazed at how well the coats hold up! This year my daughter upgraded to a new size and opted for the Middie Puffer in Permafrost. This was the first time she had worn anything other than the classic puffer coat, but once you’ve seen the rainbow faux fur hood, you’ll understand!
The Middie Puffer was the perfect choice for her and surprisingly one of the warmest coats I’ve ever seen. With a combination of a sherpa vest lining and down, there’s no way she can catch a cold in it! It’s also a little longer which will keep her legs warm but not too long to hinder her running and playing this winter. The fitted fit and water-resistant outer layer make it an all-around WINNER! She has gotten tons of compliments and I’m sure she’ll love this coat all season long. This same coat comes in olive, which is also really cute.
My youngest still wears the Puffy Coat. This year, however, the new color “Botanical” is a real stunner! I love the color combo and it’s really versatile. We paired the purple glitter hat with the coat (which her sister wears from time to time). This hip-length, water-resistant coat will keep her nice and warm all winter long!
