Growing up, I thought slippers were stupid. No joke! I remember getting them as a gift and thinking, cool, I’ll never wear those, THANKS! Granted, I had carpet pretty much everywhere back then, so I thought at the time, what would be the point of wearing them? I live in Texas where my feet are fine 10 months out of the year. Hah!

Review of Emu Australia's Mayberry Slippers

There was a shift from carpet to more wood/tile floors, which is another topic for another day, but worth mentioning nonetheless. Since I graduated college and got my own apartment, I haven’t had carpet anywhere. In about 2014, I bought myself a pair of nice slippers and haven’t looked back since. I bought the Ugg Scuffetes and LOVED THEM. I like them, they are hard on the sole but fluffy and warm. I’ve literally had the same pair for over 5 years now and even though they’re older and a little matted, they still work well. Since moving to LA, I’ve been trying to wear less street shoes around the house and wear my slippers more often than just Saturday mornings. Hah! The problem? My feet were warmer. Ironically, even though it’s cooler in LA most of the year, my feet wanted to breathe! I immediately understood why these sandal-like slippers were popular and sought out my own.

The first pair of criss-cross slippers I found were by Sorel. I have their snow boots and love them! Their Hadley Slides are so cute! I was ready to click buy but saw they were faux fur and started rethinking my decision. Usually faux fur shoes don’t last that long and I’ve been wanting this pair for a while. They also needed to be durable if I was going to wear them regularly! I found a pair at Nordstrom, but it was also faux fur. Ugg does make a pair, but I didn’t find them as attractive. Finally, I stumbled upon Emu Australia and found a pair that actually looked cute and only cost $15 more than the faux fur pair I originally liked. Plus, they were shearling!

Why did I want shearling? Shearling keeps your feet warm in the winter and cool in the summer. It’s made of sheepskin, which is wool! Emu Australia uses Australian sheepskin that has the Woolmark sheepskin seal. Why is this worth mentioning? It stands for 100% pure wool that has not been mixed with other fibers. If wool has not been mixed with other textiles, it is infinitely recyclable. Pure wool can be shredded, felted, and even spun into new fabric. Keep these things in mind when purchasing because even though it uses an animal product, it is actually more environmentally friendly than most faux fur.

I ended up buying the Emu Australia Mayberry Slippers in “Natural” and I love them! I wanted to write a post about them because I couldn’t find any personal reviews other than the product reviews and I wasn’t sure about sizing and such, so here’s my take:

PRICE: Considering I paid more like $80 for my Ugg slippers, these seemed like a good deal at $59. I also signed up for their newsletter to get 10% off! I wear them every day and they still work great. I’ve seen faux fur versions fall apart before and they were only $25 cheaper, so I felt like they were worth the price too. I probably would have paid more for them — around $80 — so I think they’re a great deal!

SIZE: I’m a size 8.5. There are no half sizes for the Mayberry slippers, so I was torn about which to buy. I wear a size 8 in Ugg boots, but most reviews said these criss-cross slippers run narrow. I ended up getting a 9 and am happy with that size. The slippers may feel tight at first, but they do stretch out a little, so keep that in mind. They actually run narrow. My right foot is a little bigger than my left foot, but about 3 months later, they both fit the same and everything is great. (When I bought them, the right foot was a little tighter under the criss-cross.) So I’d say size up if you’re a half size, although I’m not sure if you should size up on other Emu Australia products because I only own these slippers.

STYLE: This is more on trend, but criss-cross slippers have been around forever. I went with “natural” because I thought those would stay in style for longer, but I don’t care ๐Ÿ˜‰ They also come in 11 colors, so there’s literally a shade for everyone.

QUALITY: This kind of reflects the price section because I think they’re great quality for the price I paid. The sheepskin keeps my feet at body temperature and has good craftsmanship. I plan on wearing these for another 5 years, if not longer. They last! HOT TIP: Don’t wear your slippers outside. I know it’s tempting when they have hard soles, but just don’t do it! Unless, of course, these slippers are like the shoes you walk your dog in or something! Using them as actual slippers is great because it keeps your home cleaner and germ-free.

Overall, I would recommend these slippers and think they are a great buy! Do you have a favorite pair of slippers? Let me know! My top three takeaways from this post are:

Choose a size up for half sizes or wide feet

Remember that they will stretch, so keep that in mind before you decide to return them because they’re too small

Consider eco-friendly materials – they tend to last longer and are more sustainable

Note that I shot this look last month at our AirBnB in Malibu – I don’t own a Hermes blanket, but I wish I did ๐Ÿ˜‰

Conclusion

The Mayberry slippers from Emu Australia are a fantastic choice for anyone looking for stylish, comfortable and durable slippers. Their genuine sheepskin material not only provides warmth in winter but also breathability in summer, making them a versatile option for year-round wear. Compared to faux fur alternatives, these slippers boast durability and sustainability, offering a great balance between fashion and function.

If you’re considering a purchase, keep in mind that they run a little narrow, so it’s a good idea to size up if you’re half sizes or have wider feet. Additionally, their high-quality craftsmanship ensures that they’ll last for years with proper care. At an affordable price, they offer great value for money, making them a worthwhile investment for cozy everyday wear.

All in all, the Mayberry slippers from Emu Australia are a great buy if you’re looking for a stylish and functional pair of slippers!
